I really do hope Obama has it--and by "it" I mean the ability to get us out of this mess we're in--because he is going to be the Democratic nominee and I suspect the next President.
Last time I looked around, we had an economy reeling from unscrupulous financial conduct; a misguided and immoral war in Iraq; millions of veterans without shelter, millions of children without health care, and millions billions of taxpayer dollars flowing into the wrong places.
None of that is going to change between now and January 20, 2009.
So tonight, Obama had better begin to prepare himself. He needs to be ready to take on the Republican machine, because they won't be focusing on swiftboating McCain this time; no no, they'll be holding their noses and supporting him because it's party loyalty above all else with these freaks (Anne Coulter--while still a freak--not included... last time I checked).
::PROFANITY ALERT::
Back to my point. No one has it easy in America today. Not Obama, not Clinton, not Edwards, not you, not me, not our neighbors, not their kids, not the guy on the corner, not even the rich people in their rapidly depreciating houses. It didn't have to be like this, but it is, and it is exactly because of what the Republican machine has created and thrust upon us. It is putting social conservatism above our financial and national well-being, putting vested interests ahead of national security, and this slap in the face had better the hell wake us up, and wake Obama up, or we will continue to be royally fucked.
And when the Republican machine airs that first ad comparing Obama the nominee to Osama and tries to make us afraid, remember that you are fighting to fix America, that you are fighting to fix the fact that some veteran is going to go to bed under a bridge tonight, and you are fighting to fix the fact that a child might die tomorrow because their insurance company didn't approve an organ transplant.
Some of you may know me as a staunch Edwards supporter--don't worry, I still am and I'm still voting for him on March 4, futile as it may be--but I see Obama's inevitability at this moment. It's now down to an insanely popular Democratic icon versus an anti-conservative turned conservative geriatric Republican. The last leg of this race should be easy for Obama in theory, but like I said, no one has it easy.
