From georgia10's diary:
I am about as much of a "John Edwards Democrat" as Debra is a "Hillary Clinton Democrat". In fact, I am not a "Democrat" at all--which Debra Bartoshevich should admit in kind--and although I supported Edwards, that does not mean I'm going to hide under the umbrella of John Edward's Democratic candidacy and vote for McCain. There's no way in hell I'm going to vote for that senile excuse for a nominee, and using Hillary Clinton or John Edwards as an excuse to do so is not only self-defacing, but defacing to that candidate.
You see, when John Edwards dropped out of the race, I moaned and groaned and swore off voting for Clinton or Obama... and in all honesty, I am still not sure if I will vote in the Presidential column come November (although I do plan on voting for downticket Democrats, Libertarians, and third-party candidates where applicable, and Obama has been making inroads with me for his flexibility on offshore drilling).
Still, that is a far cry from voting for McCain, whom I see as the very anathema to everything Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and I myself stand for. Someone who is willing to vote for McCain yet calls themselves any sort of "Democrat" is like a blush calling itself a white wine, or a violet calling itself a rose, or Joe Lieberman (i.e. in denial).
If this poor soul had stopped for a moment and thought about what she was doing, and had the chutzpah to deny the geld the McCain campaign must have offered her to call herself a "Democrat" voting for Mrs. McCain's pauper, she probably would have realized that it's not very respectful to Hillary Clinton--of whom she claims (or claimed?) to be a supporter--to roll her name through the mud in defense of her self-proclaimed enemy.
Vote for John McBush if you must, but stop being bitter bettys about it, and don't call yourself a Democrat of any flavor. I'm not voting for John McCain, and even I have the courage to tell the truth: I'm no Democrat.
And there is one thing I know about my Democratic friends: you aren't going to let this excuse for a Democrat get in the way of party unity.
[Update: Some of you criticize that fact that I reserve the right to not vote for Obama, which is of course my right, and attempt to ostracize me for taking this stand and posting on a site intended to "promote Democrats". All I can say is this: if you really want me to vote for Obama--and if this site is really intended to "promote Democrats"--don't ostracize me, someone who would never vote for McCain and who could very easily vote Obama if provided a strong case.
The intent of this diary was not to focus on my voting desires--being someone who does not hold the label Democrat--but to focus on the voting desires of someone who does label themselves a "Hillary Clinton Democrat".]
[Update2: A lot of people seem to have missed the point of this diary. It isn't about me. It's about "Democrats" who are voting for McCain. It's not about other political affiliations who aren't voting for McCain (such as myself). It's about honesty.]
